Lightning in a Bottle Fest Announces Dates and Location + Tycho/ISO50 Visual Takeover

The Do LaB has just announced that Lightning in a Bottle, California’s premiere transformational boutique music and arts festival, will take place over Memorial Day Weekend (May 21st – 25th) at San Antonio Recreation Area in Bradley, CA for its ten year anniversary.

After what many are calling the best year in the festival’s lifespan in 2014, The Do LaB is excited to return to the beautiful San Antonio Recreation Area. The last two LIBs have been held in new locations, so The Do LaB is excited about returning to the same location, which will allow them to build and improve off of last year’s efforts.Daniel Zetterstrom 1

Tickets go on sale on Monday, January 5th at 10AM for the Rush-n-Get-Em 24-hour ticket window starting at $235 for the full weekend pass. Up-And-At-Em tickets go on sale the day after for $260. Purchasing tickets now is the best way to secure one of the limited car camping, boutique camping or lightning bus spots.

The Do LaB is excited for what promises to be an amazing 10th year of existence. Just last week, it was announced that IS050 (Scott Hansen of Tycho) will be the lead visual designer for LiB 2015. ISO50 will have his clean, colorful touch on everything from the website to the lineup flyer.

Lightning in a Bottle just released their first image from IS050, who was given a blank canvas to showcase his unique design style and preview what is to come for next year’s festival. IS050’s design was built off a photo from photographer and friend Daniel Zetterstrom, whose photo was selected for its focus on individual experiences within a communal setting that has come to embody LiB. Also, the water pail that one of the characters is holding signifies the festival’s connection to the environment and its role to improve/educate California amid the drought.Daniel Zetterstrom 4

ISO50 also produces music under the name Tycho, creating dreamy atmospheric music that has garnered admiration from music critics and fans across the globe, highlighted by the release of one of 2014’s most standout albums, “Awake.”

The Do LaB has been a fan of Scott Hansen’s work, both musically and visually, for years and after performing at LiB as Tycho for the first time in 2013 Hansen immediately fell in love with the festival. In his own words:

“A lot of my friends have been going to LIB for years and I’ve always wanted to go. When we finally got a chance to play the festival I immediately felt a sense of community that was very inspiring. When LIB contacted me about designing some images for them it seemed like a perfect opportunity to apply the aesthetic I’ve been developing for Tycho to a physical space. I was really inspired by the images my friend, photographer Daniel Zetterstrom, had captured of the event the year prior and set about incorporating them into a sort of idealized vision of what a gathering of people around art and music could be. I tried to create images that felt less literal and more like the memories people would take away from the event.”Daniel Zetterstrom 3

Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival Simply Never Disappoints

Bear Creek Music and Arts Festival recently went down Nov. 13-16 in Live Oak, FL and featured Umphrey’s McGee, Chris Robinson Soulive Revue, Lettuce, Soulive, Dumpstaphunk, The New Mastersounds, Budos Band, Talib Kweli, Break Science, The Floozies, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, The Nth Power and many more.

We at HYPE think its pretty safe to say, that Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival, is the best funk, jam, fusion festival in the nation and maybe even the world. This is for a good number of reasons.

untitled shoot-003For starters, the festival grounds, The Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, is gorgeous and spiritually magical. Live Oak trees tower over the stages and campgrounds. The SOSMP is a natural wonderland vibrating with spiritual energy.

Second, the music at Bear Creek is always top notch. The producers of this particular festival really do a stunning job each year selecting the perfect acts. Each year though, the true highlights come with the interactions between the bands and the artists on stage and with the crowd. Everyone literally plays with everyone and everyone mingles with everyone, but trust me, its like nothing you’ve ever experienced. Unless you’ve been to a Bear Creek.untitled shoot-060

And third, the most amazing thing about Bear Creek, is every single beautiful smiling face that attends, puts on and performs at BC. The people are simply incredible. There always seems to be a common alliance of love and good vibes at Bear Creek. There was certainly no shortage of that this year.

This year HYPE sent staff photographer Romy Santos up to Suwannee to cover Bear Creek. Check out his amazing images below and like his page here.

Hope From Harrison Brings Laughter, Joy and Love To Hopefest 2014

This past weekend, the amazing charitable organization, Hope From Harrison, threw their inaugural Hopefest. The event featured acts such as Fusik, Ketchy Shuby, Mike Mineo, The Resolvers and a reunion show from Jupiter’s legendary reggae group, Boxelder.

Hopefest was also decked out with all sorts of activities for the kids. From kickball to face painting to rock climbing, this little fest pulled out all the stops to put smiles on young faces. DSC_0389

The organization who puts on Hopefest, Hope From Harrison, was founded by Palm Beach couple Matt and Melissa Hudson whose son, Harrison, was born with numerous medical problems. In Harrison’s memory, they launched Hope From Harrison, which provides resources, awareness and hope for families of children with critical needs.

Matt spoke about their journey saying, “When our son was born, we had good insurance, a savings account and family support and yet, every day was challenging. The money ran out quickly and we could not have made it without loving, compassionate support from friends and family.”

His wife, Melissa adds, “We loved Harrison so much and were so blessed to have him in our lives even for that short period of time. As parents, we wanted to be there every moment for him, but it was exhausting. You feel as if you’re on an island by yourself and there’s a big storm overhead.”

Two families in particular will benefit from proceeds from this year’s HopeFest. Tadd & Jilian are parents of twin boys who were born three months prematurely. Paxton passed right after birth. Lincoln survived but has struggled with multiple medical problems since his birth.

The other family has a baby boy named Kaden who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 2, a degenerative disease mostly affecting babies that can hinder the ability to crawl, walk, stand, eat, or even breathe on their own. Half of the babies diagnosed don’t make it to see their second birthday, but Kaden has a delightful twinkle in his eyes that says he will not give up without a fight.

Flow Tribe Interview At Fantasy Fest in Key West, FL

Ever since I got the chance to catch Flow Tribe open up for Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, I knew I wanted to do an interview with them. Their hard-hitting new orleans influenced funk music puts my blood to a boil, which forces me to break out into a dance move, every time I hear the guys.

I got the chance to meet up with the guys before their last show of their residency at the Green Parrot in Key West, FL during Fantasy Fest.

The Fritz & Tauk At The Funky Biscuit In Boca Raton, FL Thursday November 6th

The Fritz and Tauk are heading to the The Funky Biscuit on Thursday, November 6th!

Fans can look forward to new songs The Fritz is experimenting with at the moment, plus old favorites like “Oppenheim” off of their 2013 release Bootstrap. Based in Asheville, NC, The Fritz has taken the stage at several of the southeast US’s biggest music festivals including Bear Creek, AURA Music Festival and Purple Hatter’s Ball. The guys also just performed at Catskill Chill in New York. DSC_5995The Fritz is a five-piece rock band that likes to get funky. This band takes its songwriting very seriously, but takes its improvisation just as seriously: carefully weaving into each composition the personality of the band and the crowd.

While their music may range from hard driving soul to progressive rock, there is always a common thread of passionate energy. In March of 2013, The Fritz released their second studio effort Bootstrap. The album is a collection of songs the band wrote over the past four years while traveling the Southeast, steadily building a reputation as a live act not to be missed._DSC5048Heavy instrumental rock fusion 4-piece TAUK released their much-anticipated LP Collisions on July 22nd. The Village Voice’s music blog showed its support for the NYC band by streaming the new album’s experimental prog rock and sexy grooves, and their new songs “MindShift” and “Sweet Revenge,” off Collisions have been added into regular rotation on Sirius XM Jam On, and can be heard alongside TAUK’s previous singles, “In the Basement of the Alamo” and “Dead Signal”, both songs from the band’s 2013 LP, Homunculus.

TAUK manages to create a live show experience to match their masterfully produced recordings. The unique chemistry and relaxed-focus of TAUK’s performance is undeniable, but their ability to create immensely melodic and emotional music without a vocal lead is what continues to captivate and impress music lovers across all genres.

The Fritz and TAUK together are an explosive combination of sound, and with TAUK’s first trip to Boca Raton, this is sure to be a mind blowing show of epic proportions.

Photos From Polish Ambassador At Freebird Live & Permaculture Event

To put it simply, David Sagalski aka The Polish Ambassador, is one righteous dude. Everything the man does has meaning and purpose to it. From Permaculture, to Digital Freedom, to truly appreciating what it means to have fans and young folks who look up to you. The Polish Ambassador has become a shining example of what the scene should be, a place for creativity, unity and above all things, love.

Two days ago, HYPE contributing photographer, Cherish L’Dawn aka Black Creek Photography, got the chance to take some awesome shots of The Polish Ambassador featuring Liminus and Mr. Lif.

Heres some music from TPA and his wife’s project, WildLight

Vibe Street Talks First Shows, Getting Started As A Producer & His Goals

For Ben Davis, aka Vibe Street, life as a producer is literally just beginning. He recently played some of his first sets at the incredible F.A.R.M. Fest in New Jersey back in July. In our honest opinion, we think it will only be a short matter of time before a label, hopefully Pretty Lights Music, adds him to their roster.

HYPE Editor, Phil Sunkel, got a chance to catch up with Ben over the phone to talk about his first shows, getting started as a producer and his goals.

HYPE (Phil Sunkel): Wait did I just see on your phone that your from Connecticut?

Ben Davis (Vibe Street): I am, Im originally from Trumbul but my parents moved out to Fairfield when I was in college.983745_602392963214360_1266840433528423718_n
