Saturday, July 26, the Believe in Music program hosted their debut festival at Oregon Ridge Park outside Baltimore, MD.
Mid-afternoon as Boombox exited the stage, a group of bright-eyed, young performers from Believe in Music showed the crowd what this festival was all about. After only three weeks in the program these kids were on stage drumming on buckets and performing an original rap number that they both wrote and produced.
The best part? As you looked offstage, members of Boombox and Lake Street Dive were watching, smiling, knowing that their performances that day were for a purpose.
Believe in Music is a Living Classrooms project founded by Kenny Liner in 2012 in Baltimore, MD. This program provides more than just musical education. Believe in Music’s mission is to teach kids the power found in this form of self-expression and how it can positively influence both the creator and the surrounding community.
The Believe in Music Festival was nothing but smiling faces and new friends, in an atmosphere that felt like a big family reunion. The Believe in Music kids brought everyone together for a day of what many have called “best ever” performances, all while supporting a great cause. Given the purpose of this festival, I’d say mission accomplished to all involved!
